May 11 - Daily Feast (MONDAY)

May 11 - Daily Feast

Things can be so common, so constantly with us, that we forget to be grateful. Nature has one benefit after another, the trees removing toxins from the air, the earth filtering and re-filtering the water, and the beauty of flowers and lakes and wildlife delighting our souls. Be grateful. It costs nothing and we cannot know how it keeps the door open for more beauty to come to us. American Indians were accused of worshipping nature, but it was the Source behind these things that never ceased to stir their spirits.

~ We return thanks to the sun, that he has looked upon the earth with beneficent eye. ~

Elder's Meditation of the Day - May 11

"[The Old People] would gather words as they walked a sacred path across the Earth, leaving nothing behind but prayers and offerings."

---- Cleone Thunder, NORTHERN ARAPAHOE

Whenever we walk on the Earth, we should pay attention to what is going on. Too often our minds are somewhere else, thinking about the past or thinking about the future. When we do this, we are missing important lessons. The Earth is a constant flow of lessons and learning's which also include a constant flow of positive feelings. If we are aware as we walk, we will gather words for our lives, the lessons to help our children; we will gather feelings of interconnectedness and calmness. When we experience this, we should say or think thoughts of gratitude. When we do this, the next person to walk on the sacred path will benefit even more.

My Creator, today, let me be aware of the sacred path.

'THINK on THESE THINGS'
By Joyce Sequichie Hifler

We are all aware of the emotional effect color creates. And for this reason we choose colors that please the eye by first pleasing the inner emotions. Certain colors have the same effect on many, while other colors affect each of us individually and in particular ways.

Red has an exciting; green is cool serenity, orange is the same color vivacity, and brown tones are restful earthy colors. People dress to enhance their appearances with certain colors. Homes are decorated and offices are planned to create pleasant surroundings.

And we as individuals possess moods of many colors. Yet, we are far more careless about the color of that mood, letting the attitudes and colors of others dictate to us how we are to behave. If we could remember when we meet people whose moods are black, to remind ourselves that their moods are their own, there would be less involvement in the emotions of others.

We are so vividly aware of color, we must not be reckless in recognizing the color scheme within our own personality. Whether it is a vibrant color, sophisticated, or bright and witty, color always works its subtle magic.
