| February 27- Daily Feast Winter storms affect things of nature the same way human storms affect us. Differences are forgotten when the problem is a common one. Meadowlarks and doves that usually keep to the open fields come down to feed with the cardinal and titmouse. Finches and blue jays, though very different in size and temperament, feed together peaceably. The food is there in one spot and there is little dissension about who sits at the table. If they serve no other purpose, strenuous times are great equalizers. They put people on a common basis with a common issue - to make it through. Where people survive together there is a bond of understanding. They learn to support and to look out for each other. ~ In my youthful days, I have seen large herds of buffalo.... And elk in every grove, but they are here no more.... All having gone toward the setting sun. ~ SHABONEE - POTAWATOMI PEACE CHIEF, 1700's "A Cherokee Feast of Days, Volume II" by Joyce Sequichie Hifler *<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>* Elder's Meditation of the Day - February 27 "The Old Ones have always said that no matter who despises or ignores you, no matter who keeps you from entering their circles, it is right to pray for them because they are like us, too." --Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA You don't know how an apple tastes until you taste it. You don't know what a fish tastes like until you eat it. You don't know how it is to be a woman unless you are one. You don't know what it means to have a baby until you have one. So it is with the natural laws. An example: the natural law of forgiveness says, if you hate someone, pray for the person to be blessed with happiness, joy and all the blessings of the Great Spirit. You will not know about this law unless you do it. The natural law says love others as you love yourself. If you hate yourself or feel guilt in some area of yourself, you will tend to judge and condemn your neighbor. You cannot give away what you don't have. You teach your children by your example, not by your words. The natural laws are written in our hearts. Great Spirit, teach me how to look into my heart. *<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>* 'THINK on THESE THINGS' By Joyce Sequichie Hifler We pray for a change, we hope for a change, but we wait impatiently. Is God not hearing us? We asked. Where is the answer? If our prayers were suddenly answered, would we be ready? Or would we look behind us for the familiar things, the people, the habits, the routine? If we were instantly healed, instantly prospered, instantly sought after and loved, then what would we do? Attention, compassion and self-pity are sometimes more important than having everything changed for the better. The fear of being without something to keep us working with the same burden, dealing with familiar pain, can stop us from knowing what it is to be free and well. If we can envision life without a particular problem we can turn our minds to real change and have it happen If we can see change, receive it, and know the joy, then gratitude and thanksgiving sets it in place. *<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>* Available online!
